The Afterlee Ecovillage is governed by a co-operative structure, which many landsharing communities have been using for governance for over 40 years. The cooperative is run as a legal distributing co-operative within the regulations of Australia (see co-operative national law description here). The co-operative day-to-day business is run by its elected board of directors. The cooperative rules cover most of the functions of meetings and decision-making processes.

The community also uses a landsharing policy to govern how the land is used, and employs decision making techniques such as holistic management and implements sociocratic governance where applicable.
