Our Land

The Afterlee Ecovillage is set on 700 acres in the Cob O’Corn valley, 200m above sea level and bounded by the Cob, O’Corn creek. The land is zoned with 4 housing clusters including a large village cluster with planned community facilities. The remaining land is split into over 100 acres of designated farming area and over 400 acres of forested land for community use and conservation purposes.

Situated in the high biodiversity region of the Richmond Range and nearby Toonumbar National Park, the land was previously used for farming and currently retains grazing paddocks as well as a large section of regrowth forest which is predominantly wet sclerophyll with many eucalyptus species. There are a few smaller sections of subtropical rainforest occurring in the wetter and more protected areas of the land and there is a focus to revegate over 10 acres of riparian land with subtropical rainforest.

A feature of the property is the large spring-fed dam, which will provide good water security as well as a great place to relax during the hotter months of summer.

One of the aims of the Ecovillage is to contribute toward rehabilitation of the land, including the removal of invasive weeds, to help restore ecosystem functions to this logged and farmed landscape. Ecological restoration works are to occur in tandem with regenerative agriculture practices to contribute toward other objectives of the Ecovillage such as sustainable food production and improved amenity values.
