Opening Interview A conversation with Bunya Halasz and Shane Sylvanspring (30–45 minutes) about their vision, experiences, and the ethos driving Afterlee Ecovillage. Shane will discuss comparisons and lessons with other ecovillages around the world implemented within the design of the ecovillage. Bunya will discuss the land at Afterlee and the food production, regeneration, water and land based opportunities the project has with a permaculture context.  Project Presentation A comprehensive overview of the project’s design, goals, and available opportunities.

Meet the speakers

Bunya Halasz Bunya is inspired by cultures that evolve creative practices of sustaining their material needs in a manner of deep reverence for their natural environment and all of its life forms. Through the lenses of Permaculture, Regenerative Agroecology and Successional Agroforestry, Bunya works as a designer, educator and gardening mentor. His work supports individuals and communities to grow food, fuel and fibre within ecologically regenerative systems as well as facilitating pathways of knowledge and skill sharing through courses and traineeships. 
Shane Sylvanspring Shane Sylvanspring is a local social activist, ecovillage educator, town planner and managing director of Planning Regenerative Communities Pty Ltd, with a specific passion for intentional communities, ecovillages and co-living solutions. Shane is the cofounder and designer of two intentional communities, Afterlee Ecovillage in Kyogle Shire and Balaya Buyul community in Byron Shire and works with many communities in their establishment phase. Shane has 13 years’ experience in local government as a Strategic Planner, is a registered town planner and is always seeking ways to create regenerative communities within the current planning framework. Shane also is a member of the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) and is trained in teaching Ecovillage Design Education. See www.planningregenerativecommunities.com for more information.  

About Afterlee Ecovillage

Located on 700 stunning acres in the historic Afterlee area, 25 km west of Kyogle, Afterlee Ecovillage offers a variety of eco-friendly homesites, from smaller village lots ($145,000) to larger acreage plots ($170,000).
