Mission Statement
The goal of the Afterlee Ecovillage project is to establish a pioneering Australian Ecovillage, renowned for its innovative practices, principles, and governance. A burgeoning community of people fostering a culture of continuous learning, transparency, and mutual respect.
~~~
Together, we strive to create an inclusive multigenerational village that embodies sustainability, creativity, and community spirit, inspiring positive change both locally and globally.
Farming and Landcare
As an emerging community, we’re laying the foundation for sustainable food production and land stewardship guided by principles of permaculture and regenerative sustainable farming practices. Together, we are fostering a culture of shared learning and skill-building, empowering our community to become proactive stewards of the land now and for generations to come.
Listening to the land has become a valued experience for the current members. Taking time to walk, sit and observe what is happening throughout the day and seasons as we become familiar with the land and how we can care for it in ways that enhance a reciprocal relationship.
Enterprise
At Afterlee we seek to create a sustainable and interconnected community where local businesses play a central role in fostering economic growth and cultural vibrancy. This approach not only supports ecotourism but also promotes collaboration and the development of skills among residents of all generations. By encouraging entrepreneurship and fostering a sense of community, Afterlee can become a place where individuals are empowered to pursue their passions and contribute to the collective well-being.
School
Leveraging the rich history of Afterlee Public school established in 1919, the community are in discussion about reopening the school, as a cornerstone in supporting the next generation of the community’s development and a beacon of innovation in education for rural Australia. The school would service the ecovillage as well as the broader community of Afterlee and neighbouring localities.
Culture
The vibrant culture of Afterlee Ecovillage is blossoming. Collectively we hold dear the values of innovation, trust, learning, shared responsibility, autonomy and social change. These principles coupled with strong principles and practices of ecological stewardship form the foundation of our community ethos.
Our commitment to continuous learning propels our collective growth and sustains our dedication to positive social change and sustainability, aspiring to cultivate a thriving, inclusive community that flourishes for generations to come.
